At Mister C we love a good themed event - there is nothing like a fun theme to get a party going! Recently our sister property in Pretoria (Milner Fashion House) hosted a super fun themed year-end party - and we thought we’d share. If you are looking for some themed party inspiration you’ve come to the right place!
It’s a fiesta!
With a date set for November, chances where good for a nice hot summers day - perfect for an outdoor party. Set around a beautiful pool under big trees - the venue lent itself perfectly to a Fiesta! Inspired by the Mexican culture, this theme allows you to play around with bright and colourful decorations, interesting food and fun drink options and traditional music to set the mood.
Food first
Getting the right food is important - and you can’t have a Fiesta without some traditional Mexican street food. A quick internet search introduced the excellent Taco Kombi. They provided three types of takeaway tacos and some nacho snack plates for the event. Food truck catering is perfect for this type of event - it is informal and adds to the feeling of a street party when your guests can wander over to a food truck to order a delicious container of tacos to munch on while they chat and listen to music.
Drinks up!
You can’t have a Fiesta without Tequila right? For this event, the coordinators created a self-help Tequila station with the Tequila bottles frozen in ice buckets ahead of time. Add some slices of fresh citrus fruit to create a beautiful effect when the frozen bottle is displayed. On the day of the event, display it with a selection of all the traditional Tequila accoutrements.
Set the mood
The right decorations can be an easy and cost-effective way to set the right mood at your event. Here they used brightly coloured paper bunting to give the idea of the Mexican Fiesta. These little cut-out paper flags are a traditional Mexican craft called Papel Picada. They are easy to create yourself - but a bit labour intensive. If you don’t have time for that - most party supply places should have something similar available.
Of course, it also wouldn't be a Fiesta without a Piñata. For this event, the coordinators created a custom lama piñata, to accompany the lama pool toys. Filled with grown-up prizes like stationary, tiny booze bottles and of course candy. Piñatas are readily available at a party supply store, or contact us if you would like a custom one for your event!
